Abia State Equity in Geometrics Power Aba Limited (GPAL): The Embarrassing Controvervies of The Last Administration.

I have read with dismay claims of 5% equity of Abia State in Geometric Power Aba Limited (GPAL) by Executive Council Members and Agents of the immediate past Administration in Abia State.

It was my assumption that all the key players of the immediate past administration were educated to at least a first degree. I am also aware that most of the key characters bagged their Doctorate Degrees during their tenure in Government. It was also public knowledge that many of the key players in the immediate past Abia State Administration embarked on a rat race to acquire a Degree in Law from the State owned University - ABSU.

They might be anything but ignorant of how equity and investments are acquired and done. They might be corrupt lootocrats and insensitive characters but not daft in any standard. They might all not be seasoned mathematicians, accountants, statisticians or bankers but most of them understands simple elementary arithmetic.

How can $5 Million translate to 5% equity of $800 Million investment? Was the equity and stake in GPAL acquired without a Memorandum of Understanding with the Owners and Management of GPAL? Was there no handover of the instruments of the acquired GPAL 5% equity to the New Administration led by His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti? Why would a member of the most intelligent mammal family resort to publishing a report of an Accountant General who served under the same Administration as the evidence of the acquired equity in GPAL? C'mon People! We can do better than this.

To the lawyers and new wigs that served under the immediate past administration, educate them on the trite law that, 'He who alleges must prove'. The onus is on those claiming to have been present when over N1.4 Billion was invested as equity in GPAL to prove with documentation duly signed and executed by Abia State Government and Owners of GPAL.

To the Accountants, Statisticians and People with primary knowledge of elementary mathematics who served under the immediate past administration, it is ripe to school those who served with you that $5 Million is not 5% of $800 Million investment.

The immediate past Administration and her Agents has embarrassed Abians enough. Abians have moved on and Governor Alex Otti is wiping the tears of the people of Abia State. There is no space for the immediate past Administration on the success story of GPAL. They didn't start the project and they didn't commission it.

Governor Alex Otti played a pivotal role from start to finish line of the project and deserved the recognition accorded to him. Professor Barth Nnaji envisioned the dream and deserved every accolade. Ex-Governor Orji Uzor Kalu played a huge role in creating the enabling environment and ease of attracting the Project and was worth mentioning. The project has been commissioned to the glory of God. Aba and Ariaria ring-fence is looking forward to the promised 24/7 electricity.
