The attention of the Abia APC Renaissance Group has been drawn to the incoherent outburst by a self-styled group parading itself as Abians for Sustenance of Good Governance (ASGG), wherein they attempted, albeit poorly, to vilify the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, for speaking truth to power.

Ordinarily, we would have ignored the tantrums of politically homeless sympathizers of a government drowning in its own propaganda, but for the need to set the records straight for the discerning public.

Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu’s call for transparency and accountability in the management of Abia State’s newfound financial inflows under Governor Alex Otti is not only timely but also a legitimate expectation of every responsible representative of the people. It is laughable, therefore, that a group that claims to promote good governance would suddenly find transparency offensive.

Let it be made clear that Governor Otti’s administration has shrouded its financial dealings in opacity, with no clear disclosures on monthly revenue receipts, expenditures, or debt obligations, despite the fact that Abia now receives unprecedented allocations courtesy of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s fiscal reforms. It is a matter of public record that the state’s revenue has multiplied, yet the development footprint remains cosmetic and restricted to propaganda optics and repainted roundabouts.

The Abia APC Renaissance Group finds it hypocritical and unserious that the ASGG, likely a rented echo chamber funded by the state government, would describe Kalu’s patriotic interventions as “temperamental” or “unstatemanlike.” If asking a governor to be accountable is now an offence, then governance itself has been reduced to a cult of secrecy.

Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu is not inciting anyone; he is doing what true statesmen do, demanding openness from those entrusted with public funds. No responsible leader will fold his arms while his state wallows in financial mystery under the guise of “performance.”

We therefore advise the ASGG and their paymasters to stop playing to the gallery. If Governor Otti’s government is as transparent and transformative as they claim, let them publish:

1. The monthly revenue allocation from the Federation Account since June 2023.

2. The internally generated revenue (IGR) figures.

3. The details of expenditures, ongoing contracts, and procurement processes.

Until then, any attempt to demonize Benjamin Kalu for demanding transparency will continue to expose the deceitful underbelly of a government that has substituted governance with grandstanding.

The Abia APC Renaissance Group stands firmly with Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, whose courage to speak truth in defence of the people of Abia State represents the very essence of public service. The days of government by propaganda are over; Abians deserve facts, not fiction.
