“There Is No Labour Party Without Peter Obi and Alex Otti”
It is with deep disappointment and justified outrage that I address you today in response to the reckless, disgraceful, and wholly unprovoked remarks made by Julius Abure—the embattled former National Chairman of the Labour Party.
In a moment of political desperation and moral collapse, Mr. Abure referred to His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR,Executive Governor of Abia State,as, I quote, “a dwarf both in appearance and in knowledge.” That insult, aimed at a sitting governor, is not just an attack on one man,it is an attack on the truth, on decency, and on every Abian who proudly and decisively elected Governor Otti as a beacon of hope and is an attack on all Abia Citizens as a whole of which I am one.
Let me say this without fear or apology:
There is no Labour Party without Peter Obi. And there is no Labour Party without Alex Otti.
Julius Abure was a political nonentity before the Obi wave swept across Nigeria in 2022. It was Peter Obi who gave that party a name. It was Alex Otti who gave it credibility in governance. Abure? He gave it crisis, confusion, and courtroom drama.
Under his failed chairmanship, the Labour Party became a theatre of shame:
• No transparent convention;
• No internal democracy;
• No ideological direction;
• Just endless factional battles and press conferences fueled by envy.
Now, out of sheer political bitterness, Abure attacks the only governor flying the Labour Party’s flag, Governor Alex Otti, a man who did not just win an election, but who is governing with vision, discipline, and courage.
Let’s get this straight:
Alex Otti did not win on Abure’s structure. He won on integrity. He won on performance. He won because the people of Abia believed in him, not in a chair-hugging, microphone-grabbing, relevance-seeking party man in Abuja.
The people of Abia voted for progress. They voted for competence. They voted for Dr. Alex Otti, not Julius Abure, not his faction, not his bitterness.
To Julius Abure, I say this clearly:
When your record is empty, your mouth should not be loud.
When the only legacy you have is division and drama, you have no moral standing to insult those who are building what you never could.
You do not attack your party’s only hope because you’re threatened by his success.
You do not spit on the ladder that gave you relevance, especially when that ladder is collapsing under the weight of your failures.
If the Labour Party has any future, it is not in press briefings. It is not in name-calling. It is not in lies. That future lies in leaders like Peter Obi and Alex Otti, men who have walked the talk, not talked the talk.
Julius Abure is fast becoming a footnote in Nigeria’s political history. And if he continues down this path, he will take the Labour Party with him, straight back to the political oblivion from which it was rescued.
Let this be a warning,
The people are watching.
The party faithful are not blind.
And history will remember those who built, and those who only destroyed.
Thank you, and may truth always rise above noise.
