As a leading non-governmental organization committed to public enlightenment and the dissemination of truthful information, the Club 17 Peace Initiative inaugurated a 17-member media team yesterday in Umuahia. This team, comprising seasoned media professionals from all 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Abia State, is tasked with fostering accurate and harmonious communication across the state.
While introducing the newly appointed media coordinators, the Chairman of Club 17 Peace Initiative, Chief Engr. George Nnanna Kalu, urged them to remain proactive, diligent, and united in fulfilling their responsibilities. He also reaffirmed the NGO’s dedication to supporting their efforts in promoting peace and truth.
The oath of office was administered by Barr. Chukwuemeka Ogelle, who emphasized the importance of adhering to the constitution of the Club 17 Peace Initiative, as well as the ethical principles of media practice and the Nigerian Constitution.
Speaking on behalf of the media team, Mr. Augustine Alozie, the coordinator representing Aba South LGA, expressed gratitude to the Club 17 Peace Initiative for entrusting them with such an important task. He assured the NGO of the team’s commitment to exceeding expectations while upholding professionalism and the organization’s core values.
It is noteworthy that last year, Club 17 Peace Initiative inaugurated five-member peace corps units in every ward in Abia State. This effort aimed to promote peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, reflecting the ideologies of Rt. Hon. Ben Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives.
Before the inauguration, the State Media Coordinator of the Club 17 Peace Initiative, Hon. Okey Iboko, emphasized the need for collective and individual support from NGO members in the various LGAs. He also pledged to work closely with the media team to ensure effective collaboration.
In an era where fake news has become increasingly pervasive and destructive, the Club 17 Peace Initiative has taken a bold step to combat misinformation. By assembling this team, the NGO aims to provide accurate, unbiased, and reliable information to the people of Abia State and beyond.
