Since the conclusion of the 2023 general elections, one man has refused to move on: Mr. Peter Obi, the opposition figurehead and former Labour Party presidential candidate.

While the dust of the last election had barely settled, Obi and his surrogates embarked on what has become an unending campaign trail, filled with victimhood narratives, daily media spectacles, and carefully staged public appearances aimed at sustaining political momentum—despite the election being long over.

This unrelenting political theatre, packaged as “citizen engagement,” has left the country in a perpetual election mode. Instead of offering constructive opposition, Obi has effectively declared an undeclared campaign for 2027, never accepting the legitimacy of a duly elected government, nor respecting the need for national healing and forward governance.

But in the face of this persistent agitation, the Presidency and the All Progressives Congress (APC) were left with no choice but to activate their own long-term strategic mobilization, not out of desire, but out of necessity. Governance cannot thrive under constant misinformation and orchestrated doubt. And if one man insists on playing politics every day for four years, then the ruling party must also remain alert, responsive, and politically engaged.

The result? Nigeria has been forced into a state of permanent campaign, where even the breathing space needed for reform and development has been choked by opposition propaganda. The same citizens who demand results are being distracted by endless rallies, symbolic protests, and social media hysteria, driven by a man who seems more interested in power than progress.

Yet the question must be asked: when will opposition parties in Nigeria learn to move on?

Democracy does not end at the ballot box, but it certainly does not begin with perpetual bitterness. A responsible opposition serves as a watchdog, not a wrecking ball. It challenges constructively, not disruptively. It builds alternatives, not chaos.

The APC-led government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is focused on implementing the Renewed Hope Agenda, a comprehensive vision to rebuild the economy, restore national pride, and reposition Nigeria globally. But these efforts require breathing room, political maturity, and space to govern without being trapped in an endless electoral dogfight.

To the opposition, we say: you lost in 2023. Accept it. Regroup, rebuild, and return to the field in 2027 with ideas, not excuses. If you must campaign, do it with solutions, not constant allegations. Let the government work. Let democracy mature. Let Nigeria breathe.

History does not reward those who shout the loudest, it rewards those who build the most.
