When President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited Anambra State recently and echoed a line he had earlier spoken in Enugu , “We are one family living in different rooms but in one house called Nigeria” , many may have smiled at the poetic rhythm of it. But beyond the melody lies a message of profound significance: a reminder that Nigeria, for all its diversity, is still one indivisible home.

In this nation of over 200 million people, with hundreds of ethnicities, languages, and histories, it is easy to become distracted by what separates us. The temptation to retreat into tribal bunkers, to measure others by their accents or beliefs, has too often fed conflict and stunted growth.

But Tinubu’s metaphor invites us to look beyond the visible doors and walls that mark our “rooms” , to see the shared foundation beneath our feet.

We are one family.

And like every family, we may argue, compete, or differ, but we remain bound by something stronger than disagreement: our shared destiny.

It is a truth too deep to ignore , we need each other. No matter how intelligent, wealthy, strategic, or strong we are as individuals or as groups, none of us can carry the burden of nationhood alone. Just as the ant summoned help to lift a fallen fly, so too must we recognize that even the smallest among us has a role, a strength, a moment of value that will be needed when the time comes.

In the vast field of the Nigerian jungle, no one is insignificant. The Igbo trader in Onitsha, the Hausa farmer in Katsina, the Yoruba entrepreneur in Lagos, the Tiv fisherman in Benue , all are pencils in the hand of a divine writer, scripting a story too great to be told by any single character alone.

Let us move with open hearts and open hands. Let us embrace cooperation, not competition. Nigeria’s strength has never been in uniformity but in unity , unity that acknowledges difference without allowing it to become division.

The president’s words are not just philosophy , they are a national call to maturity.

Let tomorrow not find us regretting the hands we refused to shake today. For when the moment comes , and it surely will , we will need each other, not just to survive, but to build, to thrive, and to rise as one.

May God perfect all things concerning us as a nation
