SEDC Strengthens Regional Collaboration: Embarks on Strategic Work Visit to Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah
As part of its region-wide stakeholder engagements with State Governors, the Commission, led by its Chairman, Chief Dr. Emeka Wogu, paid a working visit to Enugu State Governor, His Excellency Dr. Peter Mbah.

Discussions covered the establishment of the SEDC headquarters in Enugu, collaboration on major infrastructure projects, and the need to harmonize regional policies to foster an enabling environment for investments.
The South East Development Commission (SEDC) took a significant step toward bolstering regional progress as its Board Members, led by Chairman Dr. Emeka Wogu, conducted a strategic working visit to Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah. The meeting, held at the Enugu State Government House, underscored a shared commitment to driving economic growth, infrastructure development, and enhanced security across the South East region through collaboration between the SEDC and the Enugu State Government.

Governor Mbah Lauds President Tinubu’s Vision
In his remarks, Governor Mbah commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for honoring his pledge to prioritize regional development by establishing the SEDC. He hailed the commission as a pivotal mechanism for addressing long-standing developmental challenges in the South East, calling its creation a cornerstone of economic transformation.
“The SEDC is proof of the President’s dedication to equitable growth across Nigeria’s regions,” Mbah said. “It’s now up to the commission to turn this vision into reality with infrastructure projects, industrial expansion, and economic opportunities for our people.”

SEDC Praises Mbah’s Leadership
Dr. Emeka Wogu, SEDC Chairman, showered praise on Governor Mbah, likening him to Michael Okpara, the iconic former Premier of Eastern Nigeria, for his transformative leadership. Representing SEDC MD/CEO Mr. Mark Okoye II, Hon. Toby Okechukwu echoed this sentiment, spotlighting Mbah’s strides in urban renewal, infrastructure, security, and human capital development.
Board members affectionately dubbed Mbah “Mr. Urban Renewal,” a nod to his efforts in modernizing Enugu through investments in healthcare—particularly advanced facilities for families and children—and robust security measures.
A Call to Make South East a Trade Hub
Governor Mbah issued a bold challenge to the SEDC, urging the commission to position the South East as a global trade powerhouse. He emphasized the region’s untapped potential, citing its skilled workforce and entrepreneurial drive as key assets.
“The South East has everything it needs to become a hub for trade and industry,” Mbah asserted. “With SEDC’s support, we can attract international investment and unlock our economic future.”
SEDC Headquarters Approved in Enugu
A major outcome of the visit was Governor Mbah’s approval of an office space for the SEDC Headquarters within the New Enugu State Secretariat. Dr. Wogu hailed the move as a landmark achievement, strengthening the commission’s operational base and symbolizing Enugu’s dedication to regional collaboration.
“We are deeply grateful for this gesture,” Wogu said. “It reflects Governor Mbah’s resolve to work hand-in-hand with SEDC for the region’s progress.”
A Unified Push for Prosperity
The Enugu visit forms part of SEDC’s broader engagement strategy, with plans to meet other South East governors to harmonize development efforts and accelerate high-impact projects. Dr. Wogu reiterated the commission’s commitment to partnering with Enugu State and regional stakeholders to deliver initiatives that will redefine the South East’s economic landscape.
As the SEDC and Enugu State deepen their alliance, optimism grows for a future marked by industrial innovation, enhanced security, and sustainable growth across the region.
