PRESS STATEMENT

THE ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS (APC), ABIA STATE CHAPTER, ON THE SPEECH OF THE DEPUTY SPEAKER, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, DURING THE COMMISSIONING OF ROADS IN ABA ON OCTOBER 3RD, 2025

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Abia State Chapter, has observed with concern the growing tension and unwarranted mudslinging directed at the person of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, following his remarks during the road commissioning at the Aba Township Stadium on October 3rd, and his subsequent engagement at Abia Hotels, Umuahia, on October 5th, 2025.

His statements, which bordered on the issues of transparency , accountability and Good Governance in the Labour Party–led Abia State Government, have been met with needless personal attacks instead of constructive engagement.

The Abia APC wishes to state its position as follows:

1) Support for Transparency and Accountability and Good Governance.

The APC in Abia State stands firmly with the Deputy Speaker in his position that, based on available records, the Abia State Government has received an average of N38 billion monthly between April and June 2025 as total revenue.

2) Call for Proper Utilization of Resources:

Based on empirical evidence, the number and scope of ongoing projects in the state are not commensurate with the over N1 trillion received since the inception of the present administration. The Abia APC therefore aligns with the Deputy Speaker’s call for more transparency and the execution of projects that truly reflect the huge funds received and

impact the lives of Abians.

3) The N54 billion spent on the repair of public schools:

The Party demands an investigation into the N54 billion allegedly spent on the renovation of 51 public schools in 2024, which has remained a subject of controversy to date.

4) Workers’ Welfare:

The party supports the Deputy Speaker’s demand for the payment of outstanding gratuities and the full implementation of the national minimum wage as approved and signed into law by the Federal Government.

5) Political Outlook:

The Abia APC reiterates its commitment to rescuing the state from poor governance. We share in the Deputy Speaker’s confidence that the All Progressives Congress will take over the leadership of Abia State come 2027 through the collective will of the people.

The Abia APC remains committed to aligning with the Federal Government to promote good governance, accountability, and the welfare of all Abians.

Signed,

Hon Uche Egboka

Acting Publicity Secretary

All Progressives Congress (APC),

Abia State Chapter
