In a scene that looked less like a presidential visit and more like a political takeover, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s touchdown in Anambra morphed into a full-blown APC rally, leaving the host party, APGA, in a stunning display of silence and absence.

From Awka to the Anambra International Cargo Airport, the air was thick with chants, APC flags, and the unmistakable energy of a party on the rise. The crowd wasn’t just present, they were purposeful, organized, and thunderous. It felt less like a reception and more like a prelude to November 8.
The lone APGA figure, Governor Charles Soludo, looked every bit the solitary general without an army. His party, which invited the President, couldn’t muster a visible show of strength in their own backyard. Observers joked that the airport tarmac had more APC loyalists than APGA could gather across 21 LGAs.

APC’s gubernatorial hopeful, Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu, alongside State Chairman Chief Basil Ejidike, seized the moment, transforming what was meant to be a courtesy reception into a masterclass in political messaging. It was a bold, unspoken declaration: “Anambra is in play, and APC has arrived.”

Analysts are asking the obvious: Did APGA misplace their calendar, or are they quietly conceding ground? Whatever the case, President Tinubu’s visit has redrawn the political map, signaling that, come November, the battle for Anambra will be anything but business as usual.
One thing is now undeniable, APC came to the airport with structure, spirit, and serious intent. APGA, on the other hand, may need to search for its own coordinates.
